2017 was a great year from many developers in Singapore, as they received the much-desired BCA Award. In fact, BCA or the Building and Constructions Authority had to issue a record number of awards this year, due to the fact that a greater number of developers strived to provide high workmanship quality and therefore to enhance the way Singapore looks when it comes to buildings and various constructions. On the 13th of June 2017, no less than 493 developers got their BCA award, for their extraordinary activity involving not only the development work, but also domains like architecture, design, engineering, and construction.
Since very many years the BCA is trying to promote high quality standards to developers, with the purpose of making them deliver quality homes to the people that need them. This is why BCA introduced the Quality Mark scheme 15 years ago, which became the most important guiding system for developers, created to prevent poor quality works, damage in the way Singapore’s urban areas look, and people that end up living in homes that do not provide a decent amount of comfort and proper safety. Based on this scheme, all buildings that are built in Singapore are checked to determine the quality in workmanship and interior finishes. Even through the QM scheme is voluntary, meaning that developers are not obliged to follow it, 1 in 2 new private residential units are currently subscribed to the scheme, because it inspires more trust in the eyes of homebuyers. Plus a survey that unrolled in 2015 discovered that the people who opted to purchase QM properties had to deal with much less defects than the ones that ended up buying non-QM properties. This only underlines the importance of taking into account the QM scheme in the case of developers and of being careful what purchases people make when wishing to buy a new home.
So, who were the developers that won the most important BCA awards? The Quality Star Champion Award was won by the developer City Development Limits and builder Woh Hup (Private) Limited. The Quality Excellence Award winners were the developers City Development Limits, CapitaLand Limited, Hoi Hup Realty Pte Ltd, Allgreen Properties Limited, Keppel Land Limited, and builders Woh Hup (Private) Limited, Dragages Singapore Pte Ltd, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, Lian Beng Group Ltd, Tiong Aik Construction Pte Ltd, Straits Construction Singapore Pte Ltd, and China Construction (South Pacific) Dev Co Ltd. All of these developers and constructors did their best to deliver the highest quality to their clients and the results of their efforts paid off. Now that they hold these awards from BCA, most certainly that people will trust them more than before. But, the hard work for them is not done just yet, because they have now a reputation to defend.
Let’s just hope that new developers and builders will join this group next year, making the BCA issue even more awards that reflect dedication and commitment to quality and excellence.
