Originally known as Nee Soon, Yishun is a suburban town located in the northern part of Singapore. Yishun housing estate development was started in 1976. It was developed as part of the Housing Development Board’s project – ‘Remarking Our Heartland’. The other estates developed under the project were Dawson Estate and East Coast. The Yishun estate consists of Yishun New Town and residential estate, which consists of apartments, flats and community facilities such as a medical center, community centers, shopping mall, clubs, parks and gardens.

Yishun is best described as a family-centered town. It provides you with all necessary amenities for a luxury, comfortable living for any age group or income group. The estate is surrounded by a natural surrounding that consists of several leisure and recreational parks, including Yishun Park and Lower Seletar Reservior.

An article from The Business Times that featured upcoming new launch condo, Sims Urban Oasis by GuoccoLand.  Based on the article, Sims Urban Oasis is estimated to be selling between $1,350 to $1,400 psf.  The price of Sims Urban Oasis is expected to be priced relatively competitive to Tre Residences. The Tre Residences which is located close to Sims Urban Oasis, is just standing next to Aljunied MRT station.

The Brief Story of Nee Soon, Singapore

The Yishun Estate

Formerly known as Nee Soon, the history of the Yishun estate runs back as far as a century ago. It was named after the Chinese merchant Mr Lim Nee Soon. He was a reputed community leader and a prominent industrialist in Singapore. He made his wealth by trading rubber and pineapple. Mr Lim Nee Soon served on Yishun Rural board during the period 1913 to 1921 and was appointed as a Justice of Peace. He was also a founder of the Chinese High School.

Mr Lim The Nee Soon, bought the land along Seletar River for his rubber plantations. The Nee Soon district was developed into an extended settlement when the Chinese immigrants move to Singapore as labourers to work in the rubber plantations. The immigrants then settled down forming the Nee Soon Village, paying a token amount for the land they rented from Mr Lim Nee Soon.

Greater Southern Waterfront

In our previous entry, we posted a video on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on the Development of Greater Southern Waterfront. Now, let us share with you some of the planning that URA has for our future waterfront city.

 

 

Developments of the Greater Southern Waterfront

By 2027, the City Terminals (at Tanjang Pagar, Keppel and Pulau Brani) and Pasir Panjang terminal will all be relocated and consolidated at Tuas, leaving behind a thousand hectares of land. This humongous piece of land which is about 3 times the size of Marina Bay will be used for development of the future Greater Southern Waterfront.

 

Presently, the Bayfront and Marina Central area are still under development. But as we can already see, for the past few years, with new attractions such as the Flyer, The Helix pedestrian bridge and not to forget the iconic Marina Bay Sands coming up, the entire area has evolved to a waterfront promenade bustling with activities. Likewise, the Greater Southern Waterfront which will be built after the relocation of all the terminals will be the next waterfront city in Singapore.

Pasir Panjang

In 1841, the Pasir Panjang Road was laid down by Mr. John Turnbull Thomson, the Government Surveyor of Singapore. The road is situated along the south-western coast of Singapore. In the past, Pasir Panjang Road was a long sandy beach hugging the coastal line, the name, Pasir Panjang literally means “long sand” in Malay. By 1950, the Pasir Panjang road was extended and stretched all the way to the Jurong River.

In the 3rd Quarter of 2013, the land parcel at Mount Sophia which measured up to the size of 255,866 sq ft was released for sale by the URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority).  Due to its strategic location of being in Prime district 9 and close to Dhoby Ghaut MRT Interchange, this land parcel drew strong interest from 9 potential bidders.
