Shrinking of HDB flats in Singapore
Due to the high demand of land in Singapore, the average size of a HDB flat has been shrinking over the years, according to this article from Straits Times. This is actually consistent with the shrinking household size in our population.
Our population is on the rise, but household size is exactly the other way round compared to the past. And with limited land supply in Singapore, there is no doubt that the government will have to reduce the size of a new flat. To compensate for the reduction in size, home builders and interior designers would have to come up with layouts that are more space efficient to provide a good quality living in a smaller flat.
